Townsbank Wood

The forest floor at Townsbank Wood is thick with moss and fallen branches, the kind of place where you actually feel your shoulders drop. It's a proper woodland walk just outside Cockermouth, nothing flashy, just the business of being surrounded by trees and quiet.

There's a network of paths threading through here, some obvious, others you have to hunt for a bit. The canopy gets dense enough that even on a bright day it feels like you've stepped into another season. You'll spot the usual woodland lot - bluebells if you time it right in spring, fungi everywhere in autumn, and plenty of spots where you could sit on a log and genuinely disappear.

This isn't a destination walk that demands a whole day. Forty minutes to an hour does it properly without feeling rushed. Families with younger kids will find it manageable if they're keen walkers, though it's more appeal for adults after a bit of greenery and head-clearing time. No cafe, no facilities that we could find, so come prepared.
