Traeth Bach | Small Beach

The name says it all - Traeth Bach is a proper small beach, tucked away on Anglesey's northeast coast near Amlwch. It's the kind of spot where you won't find the crowds that descend on the island's more famous strands. The beach itself is modest, a crescent of sand and shingle that works brilliantly as a nature reserve, attracting birdwatchers and anyone after a quieter slice of North Wales coastline.

What makes it worth the trip is precisely what keeps most people away. The rocky outcrops backing the beach are alive with seabirds, and the shallow waters make it manageable for families with younger kids who need sheltered swimming. You can walk the shoreline easily enough, though there's not masses of infrastructure - no cafes, no lifeguards, no announcements blaring across loudspeakers. Just you and the Welsh coast doing what it does best.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Tyddyn Isaf or Dafarn Rhos are barely a mile away - this becomes an obvious morning or late afternoon wander. It's not a full-day destination unless you're seriously into spotting curlews and oyster catchers. An hour or ninety minutes is about right. Go in late spring or early autumn when the light's better and the nesting birds are less skittish.

The beach gets you away from the busier tourist infrastructure without feeling like you've driven to the middle of nowhere. That's the win here.
