Traeth Mawr

The beach at Traeth Mawr stretches wide and sandy, backed by low dunes and accessible from Cemaes Bay without much fuss. It's the kind of Anglesey coastline that doesn't announce itself - no dramatic cliffs or busy promenade, just honest seaside. The sand is decent for building castles, paddling, or simply sitting with a flask while the tide does its thing. Families will find it manageable; the slope is gentle and there's enough space that you won't feel wedged between other holidaymakers even in summer.

Walkers get the better deal. The beach connects into longer coastal paths, and the low-key atmosphere means you can actually hear the waves rather than competing with ice-cream vendors. The light here is proper good in the afternoon, which is why photographers linger longer than they planned.

There's nothing to pay for - it's a public beach - and you can spend anything from an hour to half a day depending on your mood and the tide. The nearest town is Cemaes Bay, just a short drive away, which keeps things simple if you've forgotten your bucket. From any of the local campsites - Dolydd is closest at less than a mile away - it's an easy morning trip before lunch back at the van. Mount View and the others are within five miles, so all convenient enough. Traeth Mawr works best as part of a wider Anglesey coastal loop rather than a standalone destination, but it's absolutely worth the detour if you're basing yourself nearby.
