Traeth Ynyslas - Ynyslas Beach

The beach at Ynyslas stretches for miles along the Ceredigion coast, a proper wild expanse of sand and shingle that feels genuinely remote even though Borth is right there. The dunes roll back inland, marram grass whipping about in the Atlantic wind, and at low tide the sand flats reveal vast areas perfect for exploring. You'll find shells here, proper interesting ones, and the whole place has that sense of being slightly untamed - not the manicured resort beach you get further south.

It's walker territory first and foremost. The Wales Coast Path runs right through, so you can make a proper outing of it, heading north or south depending on legs and weather. Families with younger kids might find it a touch bleak in winter, but summer brings decent crowds and the water is manageable for paddling. The beach itself is free, no facilities that I could spot, so come prepared - bring water and don't expect a beach cafe.

Stay at Cambrian Coast Holiday Park just 0.1 miles away and you've got direct access. Searivers Caravan Park a mile down the road is also close. Use Ynyslas as your base for walking the Cardigan Bay stretch, then venture inland to Aberystwyth's promenade and cliff railway for variety. The beach rewards those who don't mind wind and space over facilities. Allow a couple of hours minimum, longer if you're walking the coastal path proper.
