Tuckmill Meadows

The meadows spread out from Botswicky Copse in a way that makes you understand why anyone would bother documenting a patch of Oxfordshire grassland. Tuckmill Meadows is essentially what English meadows used to look like before the combine harvester arrived - rough, flower-dotted, borderline wild in places. You'll find yourself walking through grass that's genuinely tall in summer, dodging the occasional thistle, spotting whatever birds and insects decide to show up on the day you visit.

It's the sort of place that rewards a slow wander rather than a quick photo stop. Walkers and nature enthusiasts will find proper value here, especially if you're into wildflowers or just want somewhere quiet to think. Families with young kids might get thirty minutes of amusement before wondering what comes next - it's lovely but not exactly a day out on its own.

The nearest town of Botswicky Copse is close by, which makes it feasible to fit in between other activities. If you're staying at Faringdon Grange, just three-and-a-bit miles away, this works as a decent morning walk before heading elsewhere. No facilities that I'm aware of, so bring water. The meadows are free to access, which is exactly what they should be. Best visited in late spring or early summer when the flowers are actually doing something. Autumn's lovely too, mind, if the weather plays along.
