Twelve Acre Wood

Walking into Twelve Acre Wood near Ashford feels like stepping properly away from Kent's commuter belt. It's a genuine forest - dense enough that you lose sight of the surrounding countryside within minutes, with good paths threading through mature trees and decent undergrowth. The wood itself isn't particularly vast, so you're not here for epic hikes, but rather for a solid 45 minutes to an hour of proper woodland air and the kind of peace that's harder to find than it should be.

This is a walker's spot, mainly. If your kids are beyond the "I'm bored" stage and can handle uneven ground without complaining every thirty seconds, they'll enjoy spotting wildlife and climbing about on fallen logs. Toddlers and pushchair culture won't work well here - the paths are narrow and the terrain is genuine forest floor, not a manicured nature reserve.

Being this close to Broadhembury Caravan & Camping Park - just 1.4 miles down the road - makes it an obvious add-on to a park holiday. You could knock out a morning walk without breaking a sweat before heading back for lunch. Longberry Farm Glamping and Wildside Camping, both around five miles away, are also within easy striking distance if you're after a quieter forest escape from a slightly further base.

Access appears to be free and unrestricted, though there's no obvious visitor infrastructure - no car park, café, or facilities beyond the woodland itself. Go when the ground's dry if possible. Wet woodland makes for slippery walking and muddy returns to the caravan.
