Vagg Copse

A small woodland wedged between Yeovil and the Somerset countryside, Vagg Copse is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. It's not going to stop you in your tracks, but it offers a proper woodland walk when you need a break from caravan life or a bit of air between activities.

The copse itself is unremarkable in the best possible way - mixed broadleaf trees, decent undergrowth, and enough space to feel like you've actually left town, even though you haven't gone far. The paths are worn but manageable, and it's the kind of spot where you might actually encounter woodland birds without the crowds you'd find at larger nature reserves. Dog walkers seem to have claimed it as their own, which tells you it's accessible and low-key.

Walkers with young kids will find it manageable for 30-45 minutes of gentle pottering. It's not dramatic or showy, so don't expect much beyond a green space experience. Older children or adults after a proper hike will likely find it too limited, though it could work as an in-between stop during a longer ramble through Somerset's quieter valleys.

If you're staying at Esme's Escape or Long Hazel Park, it's close enough for a morning constitutional without getting the car out. Worth a visit if you're after something low-effort and local, but don't rearrange your holiday around it. It does what it says on the tin: quiet woodland, nothing more.
