Vicar Water View Point

The view from Vicar Water, just outside Mansfield, sweeps across a proper chunk of Nottinghamshire countryside - the kind of landscape that rewards a short detour if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks. It's a working water feature in the Sherwood Forest area, and the vantage point gives you a decent perspective on how this part of the East Midlands actually looks rather than relying on postcards of the famous forest.

Walkers will get the most from this spot. It's not a destination that demands hours of your time - perhaps twenty minutes to wander around, take a few photographs, maybe sit on a bench if there's decent weather. The real appeal is what it offers as a waypoint during a longer ramble through the woodland paths that crisscross the area. If you're based at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest or Sherwood Forest Holiday Park, it's close enough to pop to without complicated logistics.

There's nothing fancy here - no visitor centre, no refreshments, no admission charges as far as I can tell. It's the sort of place that works best as part of a broader day out rather than a standalone attraction. Families with young kids might find it underwhelming without the addition of a proper woodland walk either side of it. But if you're the type who enjoys positioning yourself somewhere elevated to survey the landscape and get your bearings in an area, it's absolutely worth knowing about. The proximity to Mansfield means you can combine it with proper amenities when needed.
