Viewing Point

The climb up to this viewpoint near Seaton rewards you with a proper sprawl of the Devon coastline stretching out in both directions. On a clear day you're looking across the Jurassic Coast - cliffs striped with red sandstone and the sea beyond, all the way to Beer Head if visibility's on your side.

It's the kind of spot that makes you understand why people come back to this bit of Devon again and again. The walk itself isn't taxing, though your legs will know about it on the way up. Kids tend to get a kick out of spotting the different coloured rock layers if you point them out. History buffs will appreciate the geological significance - you're literally looking at millions of years of earth's story written into the landscape.

There's no visitor centre or café to speak of, which means you either bring provisions or head back down to Seaton for a proper feed. Allow an hour minimum if you're going at a reasonable pace; longer if you want to actually sit and take in the view rather than tick it off.

Stay at Beer Head Holiday Park - closest option at 2.5 miles - and this becomes your morning mission before lunch. Oakdown Touring Park, five miles inland, works if you want something larger. Both give you quick access to this viewpoint and the wider Jurassic Coast attractions that cluster around the Seaton area. It's a solid addition to a coastal break, not the be-all and end-all, but definitely worth the short drive.
