The first thing you notice walking into Vocation is the sheer scale of the operation - industrial brewing kit everywhere, massive steel tanks, the whole place thrumming with activity. It's housed in a converted mill building just outside Hebden Bridge, which feels exactly right for a brewery in West Yorkshire. They make proper craft beer here, the kind that's won awards without getting precious about it. The taproom itself is unpretentious - exposed brick, long communal tables, the kind of place where strangers end up chatting over a pint. You can watch the brewing process from the viewing area, though honestly, if you're not into the technical side it's easy to gloss over. What matters is the beer tastes good and the staff know what they're doing. Plan on two hours if you want a guided tour and a few drinks, less if you're just popping in for a quick pint. It's free to wander around, though you'll obviously be buying drinks. Best visited on a weekday afternoon when it's quieter, or Friday evening if you fancy a proper crowd. Families with older kids will find it fine during the day - there's food available and a decent atmosphere. From the campgrounds near Hebden Bridge, it's a short drive or brisk walk depending on your setup. Stick it into a longer trip around the Colden Valley, but don't expect it to be a full day out on its own. It's a working brewery first, tourist attraction second, which is exactly as it should be.
