Wall Clump

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Wall Clump sits just outside Pembroke and delivers exactly what you'd want from a Pembrokeshire forest - ancient trees, good paths, and that sense of being properly away from things without needing hiking boots. The wood is small enough to explore in under an hour, which makes it ideal if you've got restless kids or just fancy stretching your legs between campsites. You'll find yourself among oak and beech, with the kind of dappled light that makes even a drizzly day feel atmospheric. It's free to access and there's a decent loop you can follow without much faffing about with maps.

Who gets the most from it? Families camped at Sky Meadow or Parke Farm nearby will find this far more useful than some grand tourist attraction - it's a genuine local spot rather than somewhere that's been buffed up for visitors. Photographers might find decent light through the canopy depending on the season. Serious hikers will probably finish their coffee before they've finished the walk, but that's not really what it's for. The closest town is Pembroke itself, which means you can combine this with a quick look round the castle or a browse of the high street without committing to a full day out. Peak season gets a bit busier, but even then it's quiet compared to anything coastal. Winter's actually lovely here - the leaf litter's thick and the place feels properly secluded.
