Wardington Spinney

The path into Wardington Spinney is narrow and a bit overgrown, which is exactly what makes it worth the detour. This small woodland sits just outside Daventry and feels properly removed from the touring route - the sort of place you stumble upon rather than deliberately seek out. The spinney itself is dense with mature trees, offering decent shade on a hot day and that particular quiet you only get in older woodland. A short walk takes you through, but there's no grand circuit or marked trail to speak of - you're essentially wandering through proper English forest rather than following a tourist path. It's ideal if you've got restless kids who need trees to clamber around rather than a formal attraction. Dog walkers get good use from it too. The nearest facilities are back in Daventry, so bring water if you're planning to stay more than half an hour. Honestly, it's not a destination on its own - you'd be disappointed if you drove here expecting a big day out.
