Warren Hill

The walk up Warren Hill, just outside Clitheroe, is one of those Lancashire climbs that feels properly rewarding without being brutal. It's a modest peak by national standards - nothing that'll leave you gasping - but the views across Ribble Valley make the effort worthwhile. On a clear day you're looking out towards Pendle Hill and right across the surrounding moorland. The path itself is straightforward enough, well-trodden and accessible for most reasonably fit walkers. Allow around 90 minutes for the round trip depending on your pace.

This is prime walking country, and Warren Hill slots nicely into a broader exploration of the area. If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Pendle View, Holgates Ribble Valley, or Clitheroe Camping and Caravanning Club Site are all close by - it makes an excellent half-day outing before or after visiting the bigger attractions nearby. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find it a bit of a slog without good motivation (ice cream in Clitheroe afterwards works wonders).

It's free, naturally - just turn up and walk. Timing matters, though. Early morning or late afternoon gives you the best light and fewer crowds. Midday in summer can feel a touch busy, and winter fog tends to ruin the views, so pick your weather. The terrain can be boggy after heavy rain, so decent boots are sensible rather than optional.
