Worsaw Hill

You'll spot Worsaw Hill the moment you're driving through the Ribble Valley near Clitheroe - it's that distinctive hump that rises up from the surrounding farmland, impossible to miss. The walk up takes about 45 minutes from the nearest car park, following a well-trodden path through moorland that gets steeper as you climb. Once you're on top, the views across Lancashire and into the Pennines properly open up. On a clear day you can see for miles.

This is ideal if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Clitheroe Camping and Caravanning Club Site or Holgates Ribble Valley are both within striking distance, making it a straightforward half-day outing. Families with kids aged eight and up will manage fine, though younger ones might struggle with the last bit of gradient. Walkers looking for something between a gentle stroll and a proper hike will find it worth the effort.

There's no visitor centre or facilities on the hill itself, so bring water and a packed lunch if you want to stay up there. The moorland can be boggy after rain, so decent boots aren't optional. It's free to walk, naturally. Late spring through early autumn is when you'll want to go - winter can be bleak and muddy. The hill works perfectly as a morning walk before heading into Clitheroe for lunch, or as part of a broader day exploring the surrounding Ribble Valley.
