Waterfowl Sanctuary & Childrens Farm

The waterfowl here are genuinely engaging - you'll see swans, ducks, geese and waders in proper numbers, not just the sorry few you'd find in a typical village pond. It's a working children's farm too, so there are goats, sheep and the usual suspects you can get close to without paying a fortune. The whole thing works best if you've got kids aged four to ten; they'll spend a solid two hours here, possibly three if you're lucky and bring bread for the birds.

Banbury's only a short drive away, which makes this an easy half-day stop if you're based at Newton Grove or one of the other parks nearby. Cotswold Hills Country Park is about five miles out, so it's well within reach if you're planning to combine activities across a few days. The sanctuary sits in decent Oxfordshire countryside without being spectacularly scenic - it's functional rather than stunning, but that's not really the point.

Families will get the most from it, especially if the children are at that stage where feeding animals and spotting different birds still feels like a proper adventure. Adults on their own might find an hour sufficient, though birdwatchers could easily spend longer with binoculars and a field guide. The actual mechanics of the place - admission prices, exact opening times - aren't immediately clear from what's available, so ring ahead before making the trip. Worth fitting in if you're nearby, but not worth a major detour on its own.
