Watertop Crazy Golf

Eighteen holes of surprisingly competitive miniature golf with water features that actually demand respect - this is the sort of place that appeals to everyone from six-year-olds out to prove themselves to grandparents who take it far too seriously. Watertop sits right on the Causeway Coast near Ballycastle, and the course winds through proper gardens rather than the usual fibreglass nonsense you'd find in a seaside arcade.

The water obstacles are genuinely tricky without being unfair. There's one hole where you're basically trying to land a ball on a tiny platform surrounded by a moat - sounds daft, but it's genuinely absorbing. Kids love it because they can actually beat their parents. Adults love it because they'll spend the round getting wound up over a silly par-3.

Allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on how many mulligans you grant yourself. It's free or a nominal fee - I'd ring ahead from Ballycastle to check current prices and opening hours, as these things can be seasonal. The real draw is that it's sat right next to Watertop Farm, one of the best-rated holiday parks in the area, so if you're based there with family, this is your go-to wet-weather activity or a decent filler between walks along the coast.

Perfectly decent fun, nothing fancy, but it does what it says on the tin. Ballycastle itself is a solid base for the wider Causeway area if you want proper scenery and geology as well as a round of golf.
