About Wedges Rigg
This is walker territory, pure and simple. The kind of place where you'll spend two to three hours if you include time to sit about and take in the landscape. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the walk a bit much depending on fitness. There's no visitors' centre, no gift shop, no queue - just you, the fell, and whatever weather rolls in.
Go on a settled day when the visibility is decent. A windy afternoon can turn what should be pleasant into something properly grim. Free to access, obviously, though you'll need a decent pair of boots and respect for moorland conditions.
If you're camping in the area - and Hadrian's Wall Campsite, Stonehaugh Campsite, or Herling Hill Farm are all excellent bases nearby - Wedges Rigg makes a logical half-day excursion. It pairs well with exploring the Wall itself or tackling some of the longer routes in the Pennines. Don't expect crowds. That's rather the point.
