About Whinny Brae
It's mainly woodland walking, nothing dramatic. The paths are well-trodden and manageable for families, though younger kids might find it a touch samey after half an hour or so. There are a few spots where you can see out over the landscape, which lifts it a bit. In autumn the light through the trees is genuinely lovely. Spring's decent too when the undergrowth isn't completely suffocating the paths.
Who'd enjoy it most? Walkers wanting a straightforward outing without scrambling or serious elevation gain. Dog owners love it. History buffs probably won't find much to grip them here. It's fundamentally about time among the trees rather than any particular landmark or story.
Going free as far as I can tell, and you can spend anywhere from 45 minutes to a couple of hours depending on how far you wander. Best visited early morning or late afternoon when you've got the place to yourself. Midday at weekends gets busier.
If you're staying at Freedom Fields Glamping nearby, it's a convenient leg-stretcher. Not a reason to drive out specially, but well worth knowing about if you're already in the area.
