White Wood

The woodland around Sandy isn't flashy, but it's proper restorative if you need an hour or two away from the caravan. White Wood is a straightforward walking spot - coniferous trees, decent paths, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. There's no visitor centre or café, no admission charge as far as anyone can tell, which means you just turn up and get on with it.

It works best for families with children old enough to manage uneven ground without complaining the whole way, and for anyone who wants a genuine woodland wander rather than a manicured heritage trail. You're looking at ninety minutes to two hours if you do a proper loop, though you can duck out early if the weather turns or energy levels drop. The paths are reasonably well-maintained, but wear sensible shoes - it's muddy after rain, which it often is in this part of Cambridgeshire.

If you're staying at Cambridgeshire Lakes just down the road, White Wood makes an excellent second-half-of-the-day activity. It's close enough that you won't spend half your time driving, but far enough to feel like you've actually left the park. St Neots Camping site is a bit further out, but still within easy reach if you fancy a proper woodland break between park activities.

Don't expect ancient trees or dramatic vistas. This is honest working woodland - useful, quiet, and genuinely pleasant on a decent day.
