William Wallace's (rumoured) Grave

The stone slab sits in the grounds of Robroyston, a modest chapel ruin just outside Stirling, and this is where William Wallace might be buried. Might being the operative word - there's no definitive proof, which is rather fitting for a man whose life seems to blur legend and history with each passing century.

What you're looking at is basically a flat gravestone in an overgrown graveyard, with a small information board explaining the contested claims. It's not flashy. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no queue of coaches. It's just a stone in the grass with a story attached, and that's precisely why it works.

Not one for the impatient - you'll spend twenty minutes here maximum, then you're done. Families with young children might find it underwhelming unless they're properly into Wallace already.

Access appears to be free, though facilities are nonexistent. Go while you're based at somewhere like Witches Craig Caravan & Camping Park, just up the road - it's barely a detour. The walk itself through the chapel grounds is pleasant enough, and Stirling's proper attractions are close enough to make it a half-day loop. Worth the visit if you're in the area, but don't drive out specially just for this.
