Wingmoor Farm Meadow

Wildflower meadows don't come much more authentic than this patch of Worcestershire countryside, where traditional hay-making practices have preserved grassland that's become increasingly rare across Britain. The reserve sits quietly between Cheltenham and Tewkesbury, a proper working example of how farming and conservation can work hand in hand.

Walking the perimeter takes about half an hour, though you'll want longer during summer months when the meadow erupts with ox-eye daisies, meadow buttercups and various grasses that create a lovely golden haze. It's the sort of place that rewards those who slow down - bring a field guide and you'll start spotting different species everywhere.

Families with young children might find it a bit limited after the initial excitement wears off, but it's perfect for anyone keen on wildflowers or rural photography. The lack of formal facilities means it stays genuinely peaceful.

Timing matters here. Visit between May and July for the best displays, though autumn brings its own subtle pleasures with seed heads and changing colours. From nearby holiday parks like Tewkesbury Abbey Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Briarfields Touring Caravan Park, it makes an easy morning detour when exploring the area around Cheltenham. Just don't expect signposts every few metres - this remains refreshingly uncommercialized.
