Wood Close Copse

A modest woodland patch on the outskirts of Bridgwater that punches above its weight for a quick forest walk. Wood Close Copse isn't going to take your breath away - it's perhaps twenty minutes of proper woodland if you're not dawdling - but that's rather the point. The trees are dense enough to feel like you've actually gone somewhere, with decent paths winding through and enough green cover to make even a drizzly Somerset afternoon feel atmospheric.

It works best as a leg-stretcher between sites or if you're based at Ashe Farm or Cornish Farm and want to burn off cabin fever without a full expedition. The copse is free to access and takes roughly an hour if you include a mooch around the perimeter. Families with young kids will get a solid twenty minutes out of it before restlessness sets in; older walkers might find it a bit tight for the effort unless you're content with gentle rambling.

Timing-wise, go early morning if you want any semblance of quiet. Weekday visits beat weekends hands down. The main limitation is it's not really a destination in itself - you'll want to pair it with other bits around Bridgwater rather than making it your morning's entertainment. That said, if you're camped nearby and the weather's turned, it's there and it's free, which counts for something. Not a must-do, but a perfectly decent option if you're already in the area.
