You'll find yourself face-to-face with a woolly alpaca who couldn't care less about your phone camera. Wood End Alpacas near Preston is one of those spots that sounds quirky on paper and somehow delivers even better in person. It's a proper hands-on experience where you actually get to walk around with the animals rather than peer at them from behind a fence.

The alpacas are genuinely friendly, and there's something oddly calming about feeding them and running your hands over their soft fleece. Kids absolutely lose their minds for it, but honestly, adults do too. Expect to spend a couple of hours if you're thorough, though thirty minutes is enough if you've just come for the novelty. The staff know their stuff and don't talk at you like you're five years old, which is refreshing.

It works perfectly as a half-day trip from either Cross Lane or Brickhouse Caravan Park, both just over five miles away. Neither park will bore you stiff if the weather turns - this is the kind of low-key activity that fills an afternoon without requiring advance booking or hours of commitment. Bring wellies though. You'll be grateful you did. Alpaca spit is largely a myth, by the way, but mud is absolutely real.
