Wooton Hill

The walk up Wooton Hill takes about twenty minutes from Bridport, and you'll know you've earned the view the moment you crest the top. It's not exactly Alpine - we're talking Dorset hills here - but the perspective across the town and down towards the coast is genuinely worth the leg work, especially on a clear day when you can pick out the cliffs beyond.

This is proper walker territory. The route isn't signed brilliantly, so locals know it best, but anyone comfortable with a country ramble will manage fine. There's no café at the summit, no facilities, just you and the landscape. Families with young kids might find the climb a slog for limited payoff, but teenagers and adults who like being outdoors will get something real from it.

You'll want an hour clear if you're doing it properly - time to climb, pause at the top, and not rush back. Early morning or late afternoon light works best for photos. It costs nothing, obviously, being a hill. The nearby parks - Seadown and Newlands are closest at just over two miles - make sensible bases if you're planning to explore Bridport and the surrounding walks. Golden Cap, further out, gives you access to the coastal path proper if you want something more dramatic after this inland jaunt.

Go if you're already in the area and fancy a decent walk with a payoff. Skip it if you're after a quick tourist stop.
