Wortham Park

The path into Wortham Park winds through proper woodland before opening onto wetland that feels genuinely remote, even though Norwich is barely ten miles away. It's a nature reserve that actually lives up to the name - you'll spot water voles if you're patient, reed warblers if you time it right, and on a good day, muntjac deer picking their way through the scrub. The reserve is flat and easy walking, which makes it ideal if you've got younger kids or anyone who finds steep terrain a nightmare. Allow a couple of hours to potter about without rushing. Go early morning or dusk and you'll have the place to yourself; midday tends to bring the dog walkers. There's no visitor centre or café, so bring your own supplies. Free to access, and that's just how it should be. If you're based at Arthur's Retreat, the motorhome site just down the road, Wortham makes a brilliant morning or late-afternoon excursion. It pairs well with bigger days at nearby parks - the sort of place you pop into when you want to slow down, watch birds, and remind yourself why East Anglia's wetlands matter. Not spectacular in the Instagram sense, but genuinely restorative. Go if you're the type who finds peace in reeds and standing water.
