Y Dduallt

The climb up Y Dduallt from Beddgelert is proper steep - no messing about. This isn't a gentle amble; it's a genuine mountain push that'll have your legs complaining by halfway up. But that's precisely why it's worth doing.

What you get at the top is a 662-metre vantage point over the Snowdonia massif. On a clear day - and you need a clear day for this one - you're looking at the Snowdon range spreading out across the horizon, the Nantlle Ridge catching the light, and the valleys beneath you properly distant. The sort of view that makes you understand why people come back to North Wales year after year.

It's a walker's peak, no question. Not a casual stroll, not suitable for young kids or anyone nursing a dodgy knee. Give yourself two to three hours for the round trip depending on fitness. Bring water. The path itself is well-trodden and manageable in decent conditions, though it gets boggy in places after rain.

If you're based at one of the campsites around Beddgelert - Cae Du or Beddgelert itself are closest at under two miles away - this makes a cracking half-day expedition. Combine it with the lower-level loop around Llyn Gwynant nearby if you want something easier for the afternoon. Snowdonia draws people for the mountains, and Y Dduallt delivers exactly that: hard graft, genuine views, and the satisfaction of having earned them.
