Y Gangell - Coffa Elfed

The walk up to Y Gangell - Coffa Elfed rewards you with a proper panorama across Carmarthenshire. It's a Bronze Age cairn, basically a pile of stones that's managed to stay put for the best part of 4,000 years, sitting on high ground just outside Carmarthen. The views alone make the climb worthwhile - you can see right across the valley on a clear day, which frankly beats staring at a car park.

This one's for walkers and history types rather than small children who'll get restless after ten minutes. The cairn itself isn't much to photograph - there's no visitor centre, no interpretation boards, no café. It's just an ancient monument doing what it's done since the Bronze Age: standing there. That's the appeal if you like that sort of thing. The walk to reach it is more interesting than the destination, if we're honest.

It's free to visit and you can spend as long as you like up there. An hour should cover the walk and a decent look around. Camping nearby at Woodland Rise or Embrace the Space means you've got easy access for an early morning ramble before the day heats up. The Welsh Farm Glamping a bit further out works too if you want somewhere more luxurious to base yourself. Worth tacking onto a broader walking day in the area rather than a standalone trip, but the views make it a decent enough reason to get out and move about.
