The converted barn space that is Yawling sits just outside Beverley, and it's one of those places that rewards curiosity over expectation. You're looking at a contemporary art gallery that takes itself seriously without being precious about it - the kind of spot where you might stumble across work that actually makes you stop and think rather than nod politely.

The gallery focuses on emerging and established artists, with exhibitions that rotate regularly, so there's genuine reason to check what's on before making the trip. The barn conversion itself is rather lovely - you get proper white walls and decent light, though the rural setting means you're not fighting crowds or queueing for coffee. It's intimate in the best way.

This works brilliantly if you're spending time at Manor Farm Camping nearby and fancy breaking up the holiday routine with something a bit different. Not a place to spend half your day, but absolutely worth an hour or so if contemporary art lands anywhere on your radar. Families with older kids who can manage a bit of gallery time will find it manageable; younger ones might get bored fairly quickly.

Beverley itself is worth your time separately - proper market town with some cracking Georgian architecture. Check the Yawling website first for opening times and what's currently showing, because you don't want to drive out expecting to find it open only to be disappointed.
