York Road Stadium sits on the outskirts of Maidenhead, home to Maidenhead United FC, and it's the sort of place that rewards a visit if you've got any interest in non-league football. The ground itself is functional rather than fancy - a modest stadium with decent views from the terraces, and the kind of atmosphere you get at step three or four football where everyone actually knows what's happening on the pitch. Match days are the obvious draw, with fixtures throughout the autumn and spring seasons. Admission won't break the bank, and if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Amerden is closest at just over a mile away - a Saturday afternoon here beats the usual park entertainments hands down. You're looking at maybe two hours all in, from arrival to final whistle. The town of Maidenhead itself is only a short distance away, so you can combine this with the usual retail and dining bits. Families with football-mad kids will get the most from it; younger children or non-football types might find ninety minutes a stretch without something else lined up. Queens Acre and Hurleyford Farm are both within reasonable driving distance if you want to base yourselves at a campsite in the area. It's not a destination in itself, but as part of a wider South East break, it's a solid way to spend a couple of hours.
