Youngfield Park sits just outside Dumfries and does exactly what a local nature reserve should - it gets you outdoors without faffing about. It's the sort of place where you might see buzzards or roe deer if you're lucky, though honestly most visits it'll just be you and the trees.

Families with younger kids might find an hour enough before they start asking when you're heading back for ice cream. Dog walkers absolutely love it - there's room to let them off-lead and burn some energy. History types won't get much from it, but that's not what you're coming for.
