Clackmannan itself sits snugly in this landscape of contrasts. The galleries scattered through the area - Time Capsule, River Spirit, and This Journey's End among them - suggest an artistic revival taking root in old industrial bones.

The Ochil Hills provide the backdrop, with Elistoun Hill offering decent walks and views across the Forth Valley. March Strips forest gives you proper woodland walking without the crowds you'd find further north. It's not dramatic Highland scenery, but there's something deeply satisfying about this rolling, lived-in landscape.

Getting here's straightforward enough - you're barely twenty minutes from Stirling, with good rail connections to both Edinburgh and Glasgow. The area feels genuinely undiscovered compared to the tourist honey pots elsewhere in central Scotland. Using one of the nearby holiday parks as your base makes excellent sense - you're close enough for day trips to Edinburgh or the Highlands, yet far enough away to experience Scotland as locals know it, not as the postcards sell it.
