Invergordon

Royal Navy ships still dock at this deepwater port on the Cromarty Firth, their grey hulls a reminder that Invergordon remains very much a working town. The wide streets and Victorian terraces speak of grander times when this was a key naval base, though today it's the cruise ships that bring most of the excitement.

Getting here couldn't be easier - Invergordon station sits right on the Far North Line, with regular connections to Inverness. The A9 brings drivers straight into town from the south.

Staying at one of the nearby holiday parks makes perfect sense for exploring both the Cromarty Firth and the wider Black Isle. You're well placed for day trips to Dornoch or the Sutherland coast, while still being close enough to pop into Inverness when you fancy a proper night out.
