Sutton Broad offers some of the finest birdwatching in the region, particularly during winter months when the water teems with wildfowl. The Hickling Broad Visitor Centre makes an excellent starting point for exploring this National Nature Reserve, where you might spot marsh harriers gliding overhead or catch a glimpse of the elusive bittern. Sutton Corn Mill tells the story of these working waterways, though it's the landscape itself that really captivates.

Each village maintains its own character. Hickling sits right on the broad's edge, while Catfield and Sutton feel more inland despite being just minutes apart. The village signs - proper Norfolk traditions - are worth seeking out, particularly Hickling's which depicts the area's wildlife heritage beautifully.

Catfield Dyke cuts a quiet channel perfect for kayaking if you fancy getting on the water yourself. Otherwise, footpaths crisscross the marshes, offering cracking views across to the coast. Holy Trinity and the various St Michael's churches provide peaceful stops between walks.

Reaching this area couldn't be simpler - the A149 connects everything, with Norwich less than 30 minutes south. Staying at one of the nearby parks puts you right in the heart of Broads country, with boat hire available locally and Great Yarmouth's beaches just 20 minutes east when you need a change from all that tranquillity.
