This Swansea sits in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, where serious cavers come to tackle legendary systems like Ogof Ffynnon Ddu and Dan-Yr-Ogof. The landscape here is proper wild - rolling moorland punctuated by limestone peaks and hidden caves that stretch for miles underground.

Fan Brycheiniog dominates the skyline, its ridge walk offering cracking views across to Picws Du and the dramatic escarpment beyond. Below, Llyn y Fan Fach reflects the peaks on still days, though the wind usually has other ideas up here. This isn't chocolate-box Wales - it's raw, elemental country that gets under your skin.

Cavers flock here for good reason. The Ogof Ffynnon Ddu system is one of Britain's longest, with entrances scattered across the hillsides. Dan-Yr-Ogof Farm offers guided trips for beginners, though the serious stuff requires proper kit and experience. Above ground, the walking is superb if challenging - Carreg Cadno and Fan Foel reward those who don't mind a bit of a trek.

Getting here means winding through proper Welsh valleys - the A470 from Brecon is your best bet, though the last stretch gets narrow. Staying at one of the nearby camping spots makes perfect sense. You're surrounded by some of Wales's wildest country, with cave systems to explore and peaks that'll test your legs.
