Abaty Llandudoch

The ruins of this medieval abbey stand quietly on the banks of the River Teifi, just outside Cardigan, and they're genuinely worth seeking out if you're spending time in Pembrokeshire. What remains are the skeletal stone walls of what was once a substantial Cistercian monastery, founded in the 12th century. You can wander the overgrown grounds, pick out where the church nave once stood, and get a real sense of how these monks lived - isolated, industrious, self-sufficient.

It's the kind of place that rewards a slow walk rather than a quick tick-box visit. The riverside setting is lovely, and on a quiet afternoon you'll likely have it to yourself. History buffs will appreciate the medieval stonework still visible in the walls; walkers will enjoy the short riverside paths nearby. Families with younger kids might find it a bit underwhelming after twenty minutes - there's not much interactive stuff, and if the weather's poor, there's nowhere to shelter.
