A craft brewery tucked away near Heathfield that actually knows what it's doing with hops and fermentation. Abyss Brewing isn't the kind of place you stumble into by accident - you need to seek it out, and that's rather the point.

Once you're there, you'll find a proper working brewery where they're brewing small-batch beers with the kind of care most industrial operations abandoned years ago. The space itself has that raw brewery feel - all stainless steel, bubbling tanks, and the unmistakable smell of yeast and grain. They run tours if you're interested in how the whole operation works, taking you through the process from grain to glass. It's geared squarely at serious beer enthusiasts rather than casual drinkers. If you're camping nearby at Dernwood Farm or Hale Farm - both just a few miles away - it makes for a decent afternoon stop, especially if someone in the group actually cares about where their pint comes from. The taproom lets you sample what they're currently making, which beats drinking mass-produced lager in a tent.
