Adventure Valley

A sprawling adventure park just outside Durham, Adventure Valley is the sort of place where kids burn through energy for hours while parents find a quiet bench. Think go-karts, climbing walls, zip lines, and trampoline parks - all the usual suspects, done competently enough. The outdoor spaces are well-maintained and there's a decent mix of activities to keep different ages occupied without forcing everyone into the same queue.

Families with children aged 5-14 will get the most out of it. Younger kids might find some rides a bit ambitious, and teenagers often drift towards the go-kart track and the more intense stuff. A full day is possible, though four to five hours feels about right for most visitors before the novelty wears thin. Weather can be a factor - rain shuts down the outdoor attractions quickly, so timing matters.

For caravan holidays in the area, it's genuinely convenient. Andy's Woodland Wild camping and Finchale Abbey Residential & Touring Park sit less than a mile away, making it an easy morning outing without the stress of a long drive. Strawberry Hill Farm and Beamish Glamping offer more space if you're after a slower-paced base. Combined with Durham's cathedral and riverside walks, plus Beamish Museum just up the road, the park slots in nicely as a half-day activity rather than the main event. Worth booking ahead during school holidays - it gets rammed.
