Alder Arts is what happens when artists actually move somewhere beautiful and decide to open their doors - you're looking at paintings, sculptures, and the kind of work that makes you pause rather than shuffle through in twenty minutes.

It's a proper small operation, the sort of place where you might bump into someone who actually made the pieces on the walls. The setting matters too - a Highland location means the light changes everything through the day, and if you time it right around late afternoon, the whole gallery gets this quality that no artificial lighting can match.

Walkers and art types will get the most from it. Kids less so, unless they're genuinely interested in contemporary work rather than looking for interactive buttons. Allow an hour without rushing.

The space works brilliantly as a half-day addition to a park holiday in the area. Beauly Holiday Park sits just over the road, which is convenient if you're based there, while Highland Premier Glamping Pods up the road offer a different kind of stay and are only five minutes away. After browsing, the town itself is small but has decent enough cafes and the Beauly Priory if you want something older.
