Aldwick Beach

The beach at Aldwick stretches out calm and wide, backed by a decent promenade that's worth a wander whether you've got the kids in tow or you're just after a bit of seaside air. It's that proper Sussex coast vibe - not dramatic cliffs or dramatic anything really, just a long sandy shore that's good for paddling, beachcombing, or simply sitting with a coffee and watching the shingle settle. The shingle's a mix with sand underneath, which makes it better for sitting than some stretches along this coast.

This is honest seaside rather than destination-level dramatic. Families with young children will find it manageable - the slope's gentle and there's space to spread out without feeling rammed in. Dog walkers come here regularly, which tells you something. It's free, obviously, and you can park up near the seafront without too much fuss.

Bognor Regis is just over the way, so Aldwick works well as an addition to a wider coast day rather than a standalone trip. If you're staying at West Sands Holidays nearby, you can easily pop down for an hour or two. The seafront has a few cafes and ice cream spots but nothing fancy - it's functional, seaside food. Quieter than its flashier neighbours, which is actually its strength. Go when the light's good, particularly late afternoon when you've got the sun lower and fewer families about. It won't blow your mind, but it's a proper seaside break that does exactly what it says on the tin.
