About Allercleugh Plantation
The paths wind through dense plantation, mostly evergreens with enough deciduous trees mixed in to keep things from feeling monotonous. It's flat enough for a casual walk but dense enough that you feel properly removed from the town. Walkers and dog owners get the most from it. Kids under ten might find it a bit samey after thirty minutes, though older ones keen on wildlife spotting could occupy themselves longer.
There's no visitor centre or facilities that we could find - bring what you need. Free to access, no car park infrastructure to speak of, so arrive early or park considerately on nearby roads. Spring and autumn work best when the light filters through properly and the paths aren't churned to mud.
It's a solid addition to a longer walk in the Bishop Auckland area rather than a destination in itself. Combined with a base at White House & Hagg Bridge Caravan Park five miles south, you've got a decent forest stroll without the crowds of bigger woods. Expect forty minutes to an hour and a half depending on how lost you fancy getting.
