About Am Meallan
The climb itself is straightforward rather than technical. Boggy in places, particularly early in the season, but nothing that demands special kit beyond decent boots and waterproofs. The path isn't signposted like some of the more popular Munros, which means fewer people and a genuine sense of going somewhere. On a clear day - and you'll want to time this for clear weather - you can see right across the Skye bridge and beyond.
It's worth doing if you're staying at Reraig Caravan & Camping, just a short drive away. The site's well-regarded and puts you in prime position for hill-walking without needing to trek far from camp. Solo walkers and couples will enjoy this more than families with young children; the terrain isn't especially child-friendly and there's not much to hold attention at the summit except the view itself.
Go early in the day if possible. Late afternoon light is lovely but means you're descending in dimming conditions, and the boggy sections become proper ankle-turners in poor visibility. Free to walk, obviously. Just park sensibly near Kyle of Lochalsh and check conditions beforehand.
