Anmer Field Covert

Anmer Field Covert is a proper woodland walk just outside King's Lynn - the sort of place locals know about but most visitors miss entirely. It's manageable forestry rather than ancient old-growth woodland, but the paths are clear and the canopy does its job of blocking out the world for a bit.

There's nothing flashy here. No visitor centre, no tea room, no interpretation boards telling you what tree is what. You get a quiet walk through the trees, which is exactly the point. Families with young kids will manage it fine; the terrain is fairly straightforward and you can make it as short or as long as you fancy. History enthusiasts won't find much to chew on - it's not steeped in anything particularly dramatic - but if you want an hour's peace before heading back to whatever you're doing in Norfolk, it delivers.

The real value is the proximity to King's Lynn and the caravan parks clustered nearby. Pinecones is barely three miles away, and Sandringham site only slightly further - so if you're based at one of those, this works as an easy morning's walk without needing to load the car up. It fits well with a week exploring the Norfolk parks and beaches; when you've had enough of the seaside bits, the covert gives you something green and quiet.

Be realistic though - it's not a full day's outing. Go early, walk it, move on. Decent boots help on damp days, and there's no guarantee of facilities nearby. Honest woodland, no more, no less.
