Arlick Hill

The walk up Arlick Hill takes about forty minutes from Perth, which makes it ideal for a half-day outing when you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks. The summit isn't spectacularly high - you're not scrambling over rocks or anything - but the views across Perthshire are genuinely worth the leg work. On a clear day you can pick out the Sidlaws and Ochils, and if you time it right you'll have the place mostly to yourself. The path is straightforward enough for families, though younger kids might need a bit of coaxing on the final push. Allow two hours return if you're taking photos and don't mind a breather halfway.

This is a proper Lowland hill walk rather than anything mountaineering-adjacent. It suits walkers who want a proper viewpoint without committing to a full day in the hills. The terrain's manageable year-round, though winter can make it muddy in places. Perthshire has plenty of other outdoor options - Gallowhill Caravan & Camping Park and Maycroft Retreat both put you within striking distance of better-known walking routes - but Arlick works well as a gentle warm-up or a solo stretch of legs between other activities. The bonus is you're close enough to Perth town centre that you can combine it with a proper lunch or coffee run. Worth doing if you're in the area, though you're not missing anything crucial if weather forces a rethink.
