Ash Holt

Ash Holt is a small woodland patch just outside Market Rasen, the sort of place locals know about and visitors often miss. It's not dramatic - no towering ancient oaks or riverside walks - but it's proper useful if you're camped at Station Farm (which sits practically on the doorstep) and need to stretch your legs without driving anywhere.

The woodland is dense enough to feel like you've gone somewhere, even though you haven't gone far. A network of muddy paths winds through it, and depending on the season you'll find bluebells in spring or a decent carpet of leaves come autumn. The whole walk takes about 30 minutes if you meander, less if you're on a mission. It's flat, which is exactly what the Lincolnshire Wolds terrain doesn't normally offer, so that's refreshing.

Families with young kids will get a kick out of it for 45 minutes max - long enough to burn energy but short enough that nobody melts. It's not a destination in itself; it's filler. But good filler. If you're staying at one of the nearby sites - North Gulham Glamping or Wolds View Country Park - and the weather's turned grim or the kids need a break from the caravan, this works.

Free to access, open whenever, no facilities to speak of. Wear decent boots after rain because it gets boggy. Worth a visit if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your holiday around it.
