The old Blair Atholl schoolhouse holds a surprisingly engaging collection of rural life memorabilia - farming tools, domestic items, photographs spanning generations. It's genuinely intimate rather than grand, the sort of place where you'll actually read the labels because there aren't thousands of them.

You're essentially stepping into how Perthshire folk lived a century ago. Blacksmith's equipment, schoolroom desks, the kind of domestic clutter that tells you more about daily existence than any textbook could. The volunteers running it clearly know their stuff and aren't the type to disappear when you walk in.

It suits walkers and history types rather than anyone after flashy interactive displays. Allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're thorough. Families with younger kids might find it a bit slow - there's not much to actively do, just look and absorb.

Situated just outside Pitlochry, it's an easy add-on to a day exploring the Tay Valley. If you're staying at Blair Castle Caravan Park or River Tilt Park - both essentially on the doorstep - you can pop in without making a special trip. Faskally Woods Holiday Park is a short drive away and equally convenient. Worth coupling with a walk around the castle grounds or a tramp along the Tummel Valley if you've got a full day planned.

It's modest and costs next to nothing, which means there's zero pressure to feel like you've wasted your time if it's not your thing.
