Baildon Moor

The walk up Baildon Moor rewards you with proper views across the Worth Valley and beyond - nothing fancy, just honest Yorkshire moorland with enough elevation to feel like you've earned your legs. From Shipley, it's an easy enough jaunt to reach, and once you're up there you can see why it's been drawing people for centuries. The moor itself is open ground, gritty underfoot in places, covered in heather and bilberry depending on the season.

What makes it work is the accessibility. This isn't a scramble or a technical climb - walkers of moderate fitness can manage the ascent in under an hour, which makes it ideal for families wanting something more than a gentle stroll but not a full day expedition. Kids usually enjoy the scramble up, and there's enough space to run about once you reach the top without worrying too much. The views aren't showstopping, but they're wide and genuinely pleasant, especially on a clear day when you can pick out the industrial landscape give way to proper hills in the distance.
