About Battleston Hill
The walk up takes about 20 minutes from the nearest car park, following well-marked paths through typical Surrey Heath landscape of gorse, heather and scattered silver birch. It's gentle enough for families with reasonably active children, though the sandy soil can be a bit slippery after rain.
From the top, you get a decent panorama that stretches from the North Downs to the south right across to Windsor Castle on particularly clear days. The view isn't spectacular - this isn't Box Hill - but it's satisfying enough, especially if you're staying locally and fancy a proper leg stretch.
History buffs might appreciate that this was once a Bronze Age burial site, though there's precious little to see of that now. The hill works well as part of a longer walk through Chobham Common or as a quick morning expedition if you're based at one of the nearby sites like Warren Farm Home Park or Horsley Camping. Allow an hour for the round trip, longer if you want to explore the wider heathland. Free to access, naturally, and best visited early morning or late afternoon when the light's softer.
