BCAC Hangars

The BCAC Hangars sit on the outskirts of Salisbury, a working reminder of Britain's aviation heritage that doesn't feel like a museum at all. You're essentially stepping into the operational side of warbird restoration and flying - volunteers tinker with Spitfires and other vintage aircraft in massive hangars while you watch. Some days planes actually fly from here, which is the whole point of the place.

It's genuinely brilliant if you're serious about aircraft. Not the polished, behind-glass sort of experience - you get close enough to smell the fuel and oil, see the rivets, understand what restoring a 1940s fighter actually involves. Casual visitors might find twenty minutes enough; enthusiasts lose entire afternoons here. The volunteers are often happy to chat if they're not mid-repair.

Timing matters. Ring ahead first - opening hours aren't fixed because this is a working restoration facility, not a traditional attraction. Some weekends are better than others depending on what's being worked on. Free admission, though donations keep the place going.

Pair it with Stonehenge Campsite & Glamping, which sits four and a half miles away near the famous stones. You've got Salisbury itself just down the road for shops and decent lunch spots.
