Beaghmore Stone Circle C

Seven Bronze Age stone circles sit on the boggy moorland between Cookstown and the Sperrin Mountains, and they're genuinely eerie in the right light. Beaghmore isn't one dramatic ring - it's a whole ritual landscape with cairns, alignments, and standing stones scattered across the hillside in a pattern that still makes archaeologists argue about what it all meant.

Walking out here feels properly isolated. The stones themselves aren't massive - nothing like Stonehenge - but that's part of the appeal. You're not fighting crowds or guided tours. It's just you, the wind, and the thought that someone arranged all this 4,000 years ago for reasons we can only guess at. On a grey day it's atmospheric. On a clear one, the views toward the Sperrins are tremendous.

History types will spend a good hour picking through the layout and reading the interpretation board. Walkers use it as a waypoint on Sperrin treks - the moorland around here is proper walking country. Families with young kids might find twenty minutes enough unless they're really into archaeology.
