Beddrod Siambr Dyffryn Ardudwy

Stone circles don't come much more atmospheric than this Bronze Age burial chamber, perched on moorland above the Ardudwy valley. The massive capstone still balances precariously on its supporting uprights after 4,000 years, creating a proper sense of ancient mystery that'll give you goosebumps on a misty morning.

Getting there requires a decent walk across rough ground from the nearest parking spot - wear proper boots and allow at least an hour return. The path isn't marked, so bring an OS map or GPS. Worth it though for anyone with a genuine interest in prehistoric Wales.

Kids might find it a bit underwhelming unless they're already into archaeology. There's not much to physically explore, and the walk can be boggy after rain. History enthusiasts and photographers will get far more from the experience, especially in dramatic weather when the surrounding peaks of Snowdonia create a moody backdrop.

If you're staying at one of the holiday parks near Talybont like Shell Island or the various caravan sites dotted along this stretch of coast, it makes for an interesting half-day excursion. Combine it with exploring the nearby Rhaeadr Nantcol Waterfalls for a proper day out in this lesser-visited corner of Gwynedd. Just don't expect crowds or facilities - this is raw Welsh countryside at its most elemental.
